Magnawave

INTRODUCING MAGNAWAVE

The Salty Mare Equine Recovery now offers MagnaWave PEMF using the Semi 10, a professional-grade pulsed electromagnetic field system designed for equine wellness and recovery.

The Semi 10 is FEI-compliant, making it an excellent option for competition horses where staying within FEI regulations matters.

Available at shows & barn visits

MagnaWave PEMF is available through The Salty Mare Equine Recovery at select shows and by barn visit.

What Is PEMF?

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. The system uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to deliver a gentle, non-invasive session to the horse.

MagnaWave sessions can be incorporated into a horse's routine before or after work, at home or at the show.

Why Use MAGNAWAVE?

PEMF can be used as part of a horse's overall recovery and wellness routine to:

  • Support circulation
  • Promote relaxation
  • Support muscle recovery
  • Help horses feel comfortable after exercise
  • Complement other recovery modalities

Studies behind MAGNAWAVE

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) technology has been studied for decades, particularly in bone healing, tissue repair, pain, and musculoskeletal applications. Research has explored how pulsed electromagnetic fields can influence cellular signaling and biological processes involved in recovery. PEMF has also been used clinically in the United States for bone-healing applications since the FDA approved PEMF for certain nonunion fractures in 1979.

More recent research continues to investigate PEMF in both human and veterinary applications. A 2020 systematic review and meta-analysis of 22 randomized controlled trials found evidence of improved fracture-healing rates and reduced pain, although the authors noted that more research is needed to determine optimal treatment parameters.

There is also new equine research. A 2026 study in horses with distal tarsal osteoarthritis found a short-term reduction in subjective flexion-associated lameness and changes in an inflammatory marker following PEMF treatment, although objective gait measurements did not change.

In other words: PEMF isn't a new concept, it has a substantial history of scientific investigation, while research continues to determine exactly how different PEMF systems and treatment parameters affect different conditions.

What does NASA have to do with it?

NASA has also investigated electromagnetic fields in relation to cellular activity and tissue biology, particularly because spaceflight presents unique challenges to the human body. Research into electromagnetic-field effects on cells and tissues has contributed to the broader scientific understanding of how these fields may interact with biological systems.
